While calls received by the Central Board of Secondary Education’s regional helpline for Class X this year has risen by 50 per cent compared to last year’s records, the counsellors state that this time around, instead of stress related queries it was the board’s new changes that had students worried.
According to the counsellors, the introduction of grading system in 2009 and division of the academic year into two semesters under the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system this year have reduced stress levels and apprehension among students.
During this year’s board examinations, however, there was widespread confusion over the newly introduced internal assessments system and the option of choosing school-based board exams.
